From A to Z

A is for Autoimmune

A: Autoimmune.

Webster’s dictionary defines Autoimmune as follows…: of, relating to, or caused by autoantibodies or T cells that attack molecules, cells, or tissues of the organism producing them <autoimmune diseases>.
If you’re anything like me, these words may not seem all to helpful and overwhelming. Here’s what I have come to understand Autoimmune to mean: When our body fails to recognize substances as it’s own and attacks them as if they were intruders, this is autoimmunity.

Dr Amy Myers describes autoimmunity in depth in a way I have not heard before. She made this so much more understandable to me. If you haven’t heard of her or haven’t gotten around to it yet, look her up… You’ll be glad you did.
